AMD Paves the Way for the Next Generation of Supercharged Desktop PCs with 9-series Chipsets

COMPUTEX — June 1, 2011 — AMD (NYSE: AMD) today launched its 9-series chipset line-up today, helping PC builders to develop next generation high performance desktop platforms. The company also unveiled its 2011 HD Tablet Platform, based on the AMD Z-Series Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), enabling vivid media display and content creation capabilities for the fast-growing market of Microsoft Windows-based tablets. These new AMD products are designed to enable more immersive digital experiences for the PC and tablet markets.

The award is given by Taipei Computer Association, key player in IT industry and exhibition in Taiwan, and appraised by a panel of government representatives, academicians, research analysts, oversea media, editor-in-chiefs and industry experts.

Rick Bergman

Rick Bergman

Senior Vice President and General Manager Products Group

Rick Bergman is senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s products group, with responsibility for delivering AMD’s computing platforms and managing the graphics and microprocessor product development teams.

Bergman’s previous role at AMD was senior vice president and general manager, Graphics Product Group (GPG), which he held from October 2006 to May 2009. In that role Bergman was responsible for the worldwide management of AMD’s discrete graphics products, including the company’s industry-leading Radeon™ family of graphics processors for the desktop, workstation, notebook, multimedia and game console markets. In that capacity, Bergman oversaw business operations, engineering and marketing, as well as iconic achievements such as the first DirectX 10.1 GPU, the first TeraFLOPS-class GPU and the first GPUs on 65nm, 55nm and 40nm process nodes.

Bergman came to AMD via the acquisition of ATI in October 2006. He joined ATI in January 2001, from S3 Graphics, a division of SonicBlue Inc., where he served as chief operating officer.

Over the past 15 years, Bergman has served in a number of marketing and management roles within the North American technology industry, including vice president of marketing at Exponential Inc. and marketing manager at Texas Instruments, Inc. He began his engineering career at IBM Corp.

Bergman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado.

Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer

Nigel Dessau is senior vice president and chief marketing officer of AMD. He is responsible for the company’s global marketing, brand and communications campaigns and strategies.

Dessau joined AMD in March 2008, bringing more than 22 years of technology sales and marketing leadership experience.

Prior to joining AMD, Dessau was senior vice president of Storage Marketing and senior vice president of Alliances and Licensing at Sun Microsystems. Prior to that, he was chief marketing officer of StorageTek and before that spent 19 years at IBM, most recently as Business Unit Executive for IBM Virtualization Solutions. While at IBM, Dessau managed the worldwide launch of IBM eServer zSeries, and headed up marketing programs for the S/390 brand. As part of the Corporate Marketing Team, he led the marketing strategy behind e-business and the transition to On Demand Business.

Born and educated in Nottingham, England, Dessau resides with his wife in Austin, Texas.

Chris L. Cloran

Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Computing Solutions Group, Client Division

Chris Cloran is the Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the Computing Solutions Group, Client Division, at AMD. The Client Division was created to support the goal of transforming AMD into a focused provider of platform solutions and consists of the Desktop, Notebook and Chipset business units. The organization includes three major functional areas: Platform Product Management, Client Strategy and Operations, and Platform Business Development.

Cloran joined AMD in 2003 and has more than 20 years of experience in strategic planning, new business development, systems engineering, sales, product development, marketing and contract manufacturing. Prior to joining AMD, he was the director of strategy and business transformation for Solectron. Previously, he held positions with NCR Microelectronics and AT&T.

Cloran graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering/Computers from the University of Dayton.

Leslie Sobon

Corporate Vice President, Worldwide Product and Outbound Marketing, AMD

Leslie Sobon is Corporate Vice President of Worldwide Product and Outbound Marketing at AMD, where she is responsible for product and platform marketing for the Computing Solutions Group (CSG), including the server, workstation, notebook, desktop and embedded product lines. In this role, she is responsible for the product and platform marketing strategy, positioning, messaging and launch planning.

Previously, Sobon was Director of Marketing for Dell, Inc., managing the development and implementation of global marketing, business development, and go-to-market strategies. She has held a variety of marketing roles in the high technology industry, including Director of Worldwide Marketing for Texas Instruments’ Software Division. She has over 15 years of global marketing experience.

Sobon has a BA in journalism from Northeastern University and an MBA from Baylor University.

Sobon also serves as vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for Heart House of Austin, a free after school program dedicated to providing a safe haven and academic support to low-income children.

Manju Hegde

Corporate Vice President, Fusion Experience Program, AMD

Manju Hegde is Corporate Vice President, AMD Products Group, with responsibility for leading the Fusion Experience Program. As head of the Fusion Experience Team, Hegde will be responsible for driving and executing AMD’s Fusion strategy across the technology, marketing and business functions as well as directing AMD strategy and collaboration in engaging the computing ecosystem to shape the next generation of devices, environment, tools and application experiences made possible by the AMD Fusion Family of APUs.

Before joining AMD, Hegde was Vice President of CUDA Technical Marketing at NVIDIA, where he focused on training and enabling researchers and developers to leverage the parallel architecture and performance of the GPU for general purpose applications.

Prior to joining NVIDIA in 2008, Hegde was Co-founder and CEO of AGEIA Technologies since 2002, when he began his mission to minimize the challenge of physics in game development. Hegde was also a professor of electrical engineering at Washington University in St. Louis and at Louisiana State University.

Hegde earned his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and his Ph. D in Computer Information and Control Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

David Tang

David Tang

Senior vice president, AMD, and president of AMD Greater China

David Tang is senior vice president, AMD, and president of AMD Greater China. In this role, he leads AMD’s business in the Greater China region including research and development, platform engineering, engineering design, global operations and sales and marketing. He is responsible for executing a single, integrated corporate strategy for all of AMD’s business in Greater China. Tang is based in AMD’s Beijing office.

Prior to joining AMD, Tang most recently worked as the group vice chairman of Nokia China and chairman, Nokia Telecommunications Ltd. with responsibility for government relations, strategic partnerships, business strategy, corporate reputation, corporate sustainability and corporate development. While at Nokia, he led China sales for five years from 2005 to 2009, growing the business significantly.

Prior to Nokia, Tang worked at 3Com for seven years, leaving as president, China and North Asia regions. Earlier in his career, Tang held various marketing and business roles at Digital Equipment, AST Research and Apple Computer.

Tang has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from California State University at Long Beach and a master’s degree in business from California State University at Fullerton.

In 2010, Tang was named one of the “Ten Best Professional Managers of the Decade” by CEO & CIO magazine in China. He serves as the vice president of the European Chamber of Commerce in China, vice chairman of the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investments, and vice chairman of the Beijing International Chamber of Commerce.
